Logo in ChatGPT: Images 2.5 templates, logo rights and pitfalls

How to make a logo in ChatGPT Images 2.5: templates and a sketch step by step, ready-made prompts, transparent background, logo rights, no SVG and pitfalls.

You search the internet for an “OpenAI logo generator”, but there isn’t one. Logos are made in ChatGPT Images, the regular image generator, which has had ready-made templates since version 2.5. I’ll show you how to use them, what prompts to enter and what to watch out for before the logo ends up on your website, business card or car.

At the end you’ll find what is rarely written about: the question of logo rights, the lack of a vector file and errors in the text. That way you won’t pay twice for something that was supposed to be “free”.

Does OpenAI have a logo generator?

No. OpenAI has no separate logo tool. A logo is simply one of the kinds of images you create in ChatGPT Images.

Version 2.5 has been available since 8 September 2026, and it brings new features useful for logos:

  • templates: in the app, go to Images → Templates. OpenAI gives the logo as an example of such a template,
  • sketch: in the mobile app, type @ → Sketch and draw on the screen roughly what the mark should look like,
  • comments on the image: in the mobile app, you open the image full screen and add notes on what to change.

Version 2.5 works on all plans, including the free one, and is available in Poland. OpenAI doesn’t publish numerical limits, so I can’t promise you a specific number of attempts per day.

Step 1: prepare a brief in five sentences

Before you open ChatGPT, write down a few facts. Without them you’ll get a pretty but random picture.

  1. Company name exactly as it should appear on the logo, including Polish characters.
  2. Industry and customer: e.g. “door installation in Giżycko, individual customers”.
  3. Character: solid, modern, family-oriented, technical.
  4. Colors: two or three, preferably specific (e.g. navy blue and a warm orange).
  5. Where the logo will appear: website, business card, car sticker, social media profile.

The last point matters. A logo for a car must be legible from a distance, and a logo for a profile icon must work in a small circle.

Step 2: pick a template or start with a sketch

In the app, go to Images → Templates and choose the one for logos. The template suggests what to describe, so it’s easier to avoid staring at an empty field.

If you have an idea for the shape, use the sketch in the mobile app (@ → Sketch). Even a simple stroke shows whether the mark should be round, horizontal or have an icon on the left. You can also just describe everything in words right away.

Step 3: write a prompt that works

OpenAI’s advice is simple and worth following:

  • text in quotation marks (or in CAPITAL LETTERS), preferably just the company name,
  • describe the font, color and position of the text,
  • spell out the brand name, especially if it is unusual,
  • ask for an original design, not for imitating someone else’s brand.

A ready example to copy and adapt:

Design a simple, modern company mark for a door installation company. Name: “Drzwi Pomost” (D-r-z-w-i P-o-m-o-s-t). Icon on the left: a stylized door rectangle with a small bridge arch. Text on the right, one line, bold sans-serif font, navy blue. Accent in warm orange. Flat graphics, no shadows or gradients, white background. This must be an original design; do not imitate any existing brand.

You ask for flat graphics without shadows because such a logo is easier to convert later into a one-color and vector version.

Step 4: refine piece by piece

The first result is rarely final. Don’t write “make it better”; point out what to change and what to keep.

Keep the icon and colors unchanged. Change only the lettering: it should be slightly larger, with wider spacing between the letters.

You can also select part of the image. OpenAI warns that the change may extend beyond the selection, so look at the whole image. This is useful when the icon is good but a letter in the name came out crooked.

On the Plus, Pro and Business plans, images with reasoning are available, for example several variants at once. According to prices in Poland as of 14 October 2026, the Go plan costs PLN 34.99, Plus PLN 99.99 and Pro from PLN 439 a month. Business costs PLN 71 per person a month with annual billing (PLN 89 a month, minimum 2 people). For a single logo the free plan and a few patient attempts are usually enough.

Step 5: check every letter and the file

This is the most common trap. Text in AI images is often wrong: a letter is missing, there is an extra diacritic or Polish characters are swapped for similar-looking ones. Read the name letter by letter, especially ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź, ż.

Before saving, also check:

  • whether the background is transparent: ask for it directly (“export on a transparent background”), then check whether the file has an alpha channel. Put it on a colored background and see if there is a white frame,
  • how it looks small: shrink it to 48 pixels, like a profile icon,
  • how it looks in one color: black and white, because that is how it is sometimes printed on stamps and documents.

No vector file

A logo from ChatGPT is a raster graphic, meaning it is built from pixels. OpenAI does not document SVG export. In practice this means that in a large print, for example on a banner or a car, the edges can blur.

A vector has to be prepared separately, for example by a designer who recreates the chosen design as curves. Only from such a file can you produce both a business card and a billboard without loss. If you plan to print, treat the ChatGPT result as a concept sketch.

Read carefully here. I describe OpenAI’s terms for users in the EU, and this is not legal advice.

Issue What to know
Ownership of the output According to the terms, the output belongs to the user.
Uniqueness The logo may not be unique: other users can get similar ones.
Disputes with third parties In business use, third-party claims fall on the user.
Trademarks On the Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans OpenAI does not protect you from claims. Protection of outputs covers the API and Enterprise plans, and even there it does not cover trademarks.
Authorship You may not claim that a human made the logo.
Markers Files carry C2PA metadata and a SynthID watermark.

What this means in practice:

  • don’t ask for a logo “in the style of” a well-known brand, because you risk resembling someone else’s mark,
  • check similar marks in your industry and your city before you start printing,
  • before filing a trademark, talk to a patent attorney, because a lack of uniqueness can make it harder,
  • don’t write “designed by our graphic designer” if AI generated it.

To be honest: if the logo is meant to be your company’s signature mark for years, a custom, one-of-a-kind design is safer than something someone else could have received.

When ChatGPT is enough and when a designer is better

ChatGPT Images works well when you need a quick idea, a sketch for a conversation with a designer or a temporary mark to get started. For a one-person business where the logo is a profile icon, this can be enough.

Turn to a designer when:

  • you need a vector file for large-format printing,
  • you want to register a trademark,
  • the logo is to be unique and consistent with your whole identity,
  • you run a business with heavy competition in your area.

Summary

There is no separate OpenAI logo generator, but in ChatGPT Images 2.5 you can make a usable design: from a template or a sketch, with short text in quotation marks and step-by-step corrections. Remember to check every letter, the transparent background, the lack of a vector and the limits on rights, because that is where problems appear most often.
